CLUB Competition Rules 2010 Internal Competitions – General
Rules 1. Maximum
of three pictures per format per person. i.e.total of six if entering
prints and digital images. 2. Pictures to be labelled A,B,C. In
the event of a large entry, too many for the competition judge to handle,
the competition secretary may at his/her discretion omit entry C. Any such
omitted entries may be resubmitted in a future
competition. 3. Entries for “theme” competitions
must be clearly identifiable with the theme in question or they will be
disqualified from the competition.
Any
entry so disqualified will be eligible for any future
competition. 4. Nudes will not be allowed in any
club event unless vetted. 5. Pictures to be titled or marked “no
title”. No image presented for a competition should have the name of the
photographer on it. It is usual to have the title, the club’s name and the
entrant’s number included but no other markings or information should be
shown. 6. All prints to be handed in to the
competition secretary no later than the Thursday before the
competition. 7. Digital images to be emailed to the
competition secretary no later than the Thursday before the competition.
This is to allow time for loading the images into the software and sorting
out the order of entries.
Rules 6 and 7 will be strictly adhered to throughout
2010. 8. All pictures to be marked out of
twenty at the judges’ discretion. For most competitions the points will be
totalled to give the winner or the aggregate total for the year will
determine the winner. Exceptions to this are the Monochrome, Five on a
Theme and Picture of the Year competitions. Internal Competitions – Prints and Digital
Images 9. Prints to be mounted, minimum
picture size 7x5 inches. Mounts should be 50cm x 40cm in accordance with
KCPA rules. 10.
Members may use trade processed prints. 11. A print or digital image can be entered for more
than one type of competition but cannot be used
more than once in a
particular type of competition. 12. Digital images to be no bigger than 1024 pixels x
768
pixels at 72 pixels per inch. 13. Digital images should be named to conform to KCPA rules: PICTURE TITLE by John Smith.jpg i.e. PICTURE TITLE (in capitals) SPACE by (in small case) SPACE

14.Digital images can be entered on a CD or memory
key or by email. Five on a Theme
Competition 15. There will be one competition for five digital images on
a theme. 16. The method of marking is at the judge’s
discretion. Small Print
Competition 17. Each print to be a maximum of 7.5 x 5 inches and
to
be presented un-mounted. 18. There will be three competitions each year and for
each competition there will be a maximum of three
prints submitted per member. 19. Each competition will have a theme. This year the
themes are Landscape, Portrait and Advertisement
with Text. 20. The winner is required to judge one of the small print
competitions the following year. Monochrome
Competition 21. There will be two separate competitions, one for three
monochrome prints and one for three monochrome
digital images. 22. Each competition will be won by the single image
scoring the highest mark. 23. A monochrome entry is a black and white image going
from very dark grey (black) to very light grey (white)
and containing only various shades of grey. A black
and white image toned entirely in a single colour will
remain a monochrome image. A black and white
image modified by a partial toning or by addition of a
single colour becomes a colour image (polychrome)
to stand in a
colour category.
Slides and Prints from Film
Competition 24. There will be two separate competitions, one for
three slides and one for three prints. 25. Slides can mounted in card, plastic or glass,
home or trade processed. 26. Slides must be spotted on the bottom left hand
corner when the slide is viewed the right way up and
the membership number included. 27. No digital process should be involved in
producing the slides. 28. Prints to be mounted, minimum picture size 7x5
inches. Mounts should be 50cm x 40cm. 29. Prints should be produced from print film, home
or trade processed. Prints should not be produced from
slides. 30. No digital process should be involved in
producing the prints. 31. The member with the highest aggregate total for
each competition will win that
competition. Flowers and Fungi
Competition 32. There will be two separate competitions, one for
three digital images of Flowers and one for three
digital
images of Fungi. 33. The member with the highest aggregate total for
each competition will win that competition.
Picture of the Year
Competition. 34. There will be two separate competitions, one for
prints and one for digital images . 35. Each member may enter a maximum of two
prints and two digital images. 36. These competitions are open to any picture that
has
been shown in a club competition during the
calendar year. 37. Each competition will be won by the single print
or
digital image scoring the highest mark.
