WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF GATEWAY CAMERA CLUB

ABOUT US

Gateway Camera Club meets at the Crabble Corn Mill, Dover and provides a friendly, social atmosphere for people who share an interest in still photography. Members, who are mostly from the Dover area, have a good mixture of skills, abilities and experience and are willing to share those skills with you. Whatever your ability or particular interest we have a place for you.
Our aim is to improve our image making by means of internal and external competitions, battles against other clubs, talks and workshops by club members or invited speakers and any number of other means. In fact the only time we bring along our camera's is when there is a Studio Night.

Members generally turn up at around 7.30 for a chat and it is often during these chats that other members find solutions to their problems or inspiration for new ideas. We aim to finish our meetings at 10 p.m. but this is not hard and fast, so if we are doing something particularly interesting they may run a little late.

You will be most welcome to come along as a guest for two club evenings with no obligation before joining.

POTTED HISTORY

The club was formed in about 1977 when keen Dover based amateur photographers left the Deal and District Camera Club to form their own club. There was already a Dover Camera Club but these photographers wanted something more progressive and formed the Gateway Camera Club.

They held their first meetings at St Edmunds School in Dover and have met at several venues over the years before being offered the chance to meet at the Crabble Corn Mill: a truly photogenic clubhouse for a camera club to hold it’s meetings.

The club now has over 50 regular members from teenagers to wrinklies from beginners to experienced amateurs and boasts many lady members. Members, who come from as far afield as Cliftonville and Folkestone, meet on most Thursdays for an interesting and varied programme of lectures, demonstrations, studio evenings, exhibitions and competitions. They also make visits to places of photographic interest.

Over recent years the club has followed the trend to digital photography and makes use of computers, digital projectors and all of the latest in digital photo accessories which has led to a steady increase in membership numbers.
