About the Gateway Camera Club

Gateway Camera Club meets at 8 p.m. on Thursdays ( See Program Page for details ) at the Crabble Corn Mill, Lower Road, River, CT17 0UY where we enjoy a friendly, social atmosphere for people who share an interest in still photography. Members have a good mixture of skills, abilities, interests and experience and are willing to share those skills with you. Whatever your ability or particular interest we have a place for you. We have an interesting and varied program of lectures, demonstrations, studio evenings, exhibitions and competitions.

Members generally turn up at around 7.30 for a drink at the cafe / bar and a chat and it is often during these chats that other members find solutions to their problems or inspiration for new ideas. We aim to finish our meetings at 10 p.m. but if we are doing something particularly interesting we may run a little late. You will be most welcome to come along as a guest for two club evenings with no obligation before joining just to make sure that we are the kind of club that you would want to join.

Over recent years the club has followed the trend to digital photography and makes use of computers, digital projectors and all of the latest in digital photo accessories which has led to a steady increase in membership numbers.
Our aim is to improve our image making by means of internal and external competitions, talks and workshops by invited speakers etc. Normally the only time we bring along our cameras is when there is a Studio Night.

We also arrange days or evenings out to photograph places of interest as a group. In this way the more experienced members can pass on their knowledge to assist the less experienced members

In recent years the club has been increasingly successful. We have won the East Kent Photographic Cup a number of times. This is an annual competition between five clubs in the east of Kent. These are Gateway and the clubs from Canterbury, Deal, Folkestone and the Isle of Thanet. We also won the prestigious Ross Cup in 2010, a competition for all of the clubs in Kent. Winning this allowed us to represent Kent in against all of the other counties in a competion held at Connah's Quay in Flintshire in Wales. In 2014 we also did very well in this competition managing a very respectable third place and in 2014 we came 4th.

We have also had a number of members doing very well, gaining CPAGB's and gaining award points towards BPE's as well as having images accepted for Salon's and Exhibition's.
